About Us

I am James Johnson, I will be the 3rd Johnson to run J.H. My grandpa and his business partner at the time started JH until his partner retired and left Bill as the sole owner. My dad had been working for Grandpa Bill since he was a kid in the 70s. When most contractors would be building an entire house before, the industry became heavenly specialized. So my dad helped build many houses from start to finish, but when Bill gave Tom control of the business Bill told Tom to specialize in a specific field. Dad chose concrete and has been doing it since 1994. Dad’s experience of having built many houses gives us an edge over the other guys who have only specialized. Since we know that the quality of our work can and will make life that much harder or that much easier for the rest of the construction project. Being a general contractor and using subcontractors ourselves when needed and the history of building houses is why we are able to work with the other contractors on the job and discuss the best way about getting what’s on the blueprint done so well.

Absolutely loves equipment, Dad told me that ever since he was a kid he wanted to run equipment. Sometimes you really can live your childhood dreams. Luckily for him, God has blessed him with an amazing talent for operating Bob Cats and Excavators. Equipment like that even in the hands of an intermediate operator like myself is worth 5 to 6 guys but the speed and precision dad can operate his equipment makes him worth 10 guys depending on the situation.

My Mom wanted me to go to college and as a teen seeing the ruff work my dad does I tended to agree, But after my first year of computer science, I came home and went to work for dad during summer break. I found I enjoyed construction a lot more than sitting at a computer all day. I liked coding but I never truly felt alive like I did working construction, and excavators are a lot of fun. I learned a lot about coding and built an app to calculate how much concrete we will need and am making this website with what I learned in that year partly for fun and partly because it is good for the business I will take over.
